Artnouveau Door: A Luxurious Blend of Classic and Artistic Design

Handcrafted Beauty and Timeless Elegance

Inspired by the art nouveau movement, Mohamed Amin Sherif has created a masterpiece in the form of the Artnouveau Door. This meticulously handcrafted door combines the intricate artistry of the past with the luxurious taste of the present, resulting in a design that is both visually stunning and functionally exceptional.

The Artnouveau Door is a testament to the designer's dream of reviving the art nouveau style in a contemporary context. Sherif recognized the rarity of such products in today's world, where the need for skilled craftsmen and a harmonious collaboration between designer and workers is essential. With this project, he aimed to recreate the beauty and challenge of bringing art nouveau designs to life.

What sets the Artnouveau Door apart is its precise hand-carved detailing. Crafted from beechwood, walnut, or cherry wood, the moving part of the door features intricate carvings with a thickness of up to 8 to 9 cm. The fixed side wings and upper surroundings, available in single or double height versions, boast a thickness of 15 to 28 cm, showcasing the highest level of carving. The use of massive wood blocks evokes a sense of classic luxury reminiscent of the past.

Unlike mass-produced designs, the Artnouveau Door is meticulously handcrafted. Sherif's commitment to preserving the historical flavor and luxurious precision of handmade products led him to steer clear of modern production techniques. Instead, he employs traditional tools and methods used by craftsmen from bygone eras. From raw tree glue and nails to dove and tale fixation, every aspect of the production process is carefully executed to recreate the authentic textures and classic feel of the past. Even the brass and bronze accessories are treated with wax techniques for an added touch of elegance.

The Artnouveau Door is available in two sizes: a double height of 2.75 cm x 6.95 cm or a single height of 2.75 cm x 3.95 cm. To ensure safe transportation, each door is packed in a wooden box with sufficient fixation means. In the case of stained glass inclusion, it is packed separately in a foam-lined enclosure within the main box.

Creating the Artnouveau Door was not without its challenges. Sherif faced the task of blending the old lines of art nouveau with a modern, luxurious taste that would appeal to contemporary sensibilities. Additionally, the precision carving, reaching depths of up to 28 cm, presented a daunting obstacle. However, through innovation and the invention of new carving tools, these challenges were overcome, resulting in a design that seamlessly combines the best of both worlds.

The Artnouveau Door is a timeless piece that embodies the beauty and elegance of the art nouveau movement. Its symmetrical design and classic framing harmonize with the softness and mysterious allure of art nouveau details. With meticulous attention to every carving detail, even in sections as thick as 25 cm, this door is a true work of art.

Operating from Cairo, Egypt, Sherif's design project took approximately three months to complete, with the initial production of the first door lasting eight months. Subsequent doors were then produced within a timeframe of five months each.

The Artnouveau Door has received recognition for its exceptional design. In 2011, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that exhibit innovation, practicality, and adherence to professional and industrial standards. The Artnouveau Door's integration of industry best practices and technical excellence contributes to a better world through its fulfillment and positive impact.
